Biography

A versatile and creative trial lawyer with more than 30 years of experience, Mr. Provenzale provides unmatched counsel and support to a diverse range of clients throughout the Chicago Metropolitan area who have legal needs involving any of the following:

Representing the rights and interests of both plaintiffs and defendants alike in complex civil litigation, Mr. Provenzale has secured substantial settlements and verdicts for those who have suffered injuries or loss as a result of someone else’s negligence, while saving his defendant clients considerable amounts of potential payments for injury and insurance claims. He has also become a recognized authority in civil rights and constitutional violation claims, and he has successfully handled numerous appeals for his clients seeking to challenge a previous ruling regarding their cases.

At all turns, Mr. Provenzale delivers highly personalized counsel to help his clients make the best-informed decisions as he fights aggressively to help them achieve the favorable outcomes they expect and deserve efficiently and cost-effectively.

A 1991 graduate of Boston College, Mr. Provenzale served as president of the Boston College Student Philosophy Association, and he earned degrees in English and Philosophy with a minor in Mathematics. He obtained his Juris Doctor from the DePaul University College of Law in 1994, while serving as president of the DePaul College of Law Federalist Society and as write-on contributor to the DePaul Business Law Journal.

Mr. Provenzale is admitted to practice before all Illinois courts, before the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois (including in the trial bar), U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He has made oral argument before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, as well as the Illinois Supreme Court. Active in his legal community, he is a member of the American Association for Justice, the DuPage County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association, among his other professional affiliations.

Over the course of his legal career, Mr. Provenzale has earned numerous top rankings and endorsements from his peers for his outstanding professionalism and service. For many years, he has held the peer-reviewed distinctions of SuperLawyer® and Leading Lawyer®, and in 2021, he was bestowed the distinction of Fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America®, an elite and select group of the top litigators in America. Locally, he has received commendations from the Addison Police Department and the DuPage State’s Attorney’s Office, and as a Special Prosecutor for DeKalb County.

While he is grateful for and proud of all of those accomplishments, recognitions and honors, none compare to him earning the Felony Trial “Edsel” Award from the DuPage State’s Attorney’s Office, for trying the most felony jury and bench trials as an Assistant State’s Attorney in 1998!

  • Obrycka v. City of Chicago, 913 F.Supp.2d 598 (N.D.Ill.2012). The first known jury verdict in the United States on which a federal jury found that a “Code of Silence” in a police department directly led to the criminal conduct of an off-duty officer, 913 F.Supp.2d 598 (N.D.Ill. 2012)
  • Aguila Records, Inc., v. Nueva Generación Music Group, 2009 WL 3719422 (N.D.Ill.). Mr. Provenzale was successful in obtaining an injunction for his client Aguila Records to protect its trademark and copyrights in the band Alacranes Musical, a Latin Grammy ® winning music group, WL 3719422 (N.D.Ill. 2009)
  • Shales v. Teamsters’ Local 330, 557 F.3d 746 (7th Cir. 2009). A ruling of first impression at the time, a Federal Appeals Court decision affirmed the imposition of about $80,000 in sanctions against the attorney for Shales for conduct violating a federal rule and statute prohibiting frivolous filings and improper conduct. (7th Cir. 2009)
  • Doe v. Hinsdale Twp. High School Dist. 86, 388 Ill.App.3d 995 (2nd Dist. 2009). A matter of first impression, Mr. Provenzale successfully obtained appellate reversal of the dismissal of his client’s claims against a school district for sexual abuse by a teacher, finding that the Illinois Tort Immunity Act limitation period was not applicable to actions based upon childhood sexual abuse, 388 Ill.App.3d 995 (2nd Dist. 2009)
